During Miami Art Week, lots of modern sculptures welcomed the city’s visitors to one of the grandest design events of the year. Elmgreen and Dragset are known for their funny-positioned swimming pools, their signature art sculpture, in an inverted U.
‘Bent Pool’, a 20-foot-tall art sculpture was unveiled in front of the Miami Beach convention center during Miami art week 2019. Forming part of the city’s ‘art in public places’ program, the sculpture with a very modern design is shaped like an inverted ‘U’, with the swimming pool held up by two stone plinths.
The public could walk through this modern art piece, one person at a time. The art sculpture in the form of an arch resembles the historical buildings that are at the entrance of many cities.
Commissioned as part of the city of Miami beach’s art in public places program, this art sculpture is one of six permanent site-specific works surrounding the Miami Beach convention center (MBCC).
The selected artworks collectively represent the largest public art project of its kind installed on a single site in the United States history.
