L’Ange Volant (meaning “The Flying Angel“) is actually the only project in France completed by the legendary Italian architect Gio Ponti. This monumental location welcomes a design and art exhibition, entitled Genius Loci. Sit back while I Lobo You takes you inside and tells you everything about the amazing artworks.
Featuring works by Alicja Kwade, Nao Matsunaga, and Jonathan Trayte, this art exhibition explores the intersection of art, design, and architecture. Finished in 1927, the neo-Palladian villa is around Paris and went to makeover process to receive the show. The curator Marion Vignal asked numerous artists, designers, and galleries to help transform the historical place.
Nilufar Gallery was one of the main collaborations that gave life to this art exhibition. Founder, Nina Yashar granted design masterpieces by Ponti himself, as well as works by Ico Parisi, Piero Fornasetti, Roberto Giulio Rida, Studio Nucleo, and Sophie Dries.
The selection we made with Marion Vignal is a mix of vintage and contemporary and is the result of an accurate research among my collection of Ponti and other designers and artists. I think that today, more than ever, it is important to put different decades in relation, to create awareness in our sector and share our knowledge with a large audience. The opportunity to showcase these works in such an incredible building is a rare occasion and a meaningful experience for the gallery.Nina Yashar, founder of Nilufar Gallery
Genius Loci also stars selected pieces by Mathias Kiss (whose white marble artwork graces the front lawn), Laurent Grasso, Franklin Azzi, Maloles Antignac, Agnès Sébyleau, and Damian O’Sullivan. All work side by side with contemporary works by Alicja Kwade, Nao Matsunaga, Studio KO, and Jonathan Trayte, in order to create an immersive design and art exhibition. Cities like Venice, Brussels, Milan, London, and Los Angeles are pointed out as the next to welcome future shows.
