Banksy claimed the responsibility for the street artworks on the east coast of England, after a week of speculation. The modern artist released a video on his Instagram, entitled “A Great British Spraycation”. I Lobo You will walk you through ten new artworks, exposing his interpretation on Summer Vacations!
From a mouse drinking a cocktail to a huge seagull, and a boat depicting the refugee crisis, not to mention, children imagining an adventure at sea, Banksy brings attention to important subjects, such as the need to think of an alternative to traditional holidays.
A Great British Spraycation is a satire to the idea of staycations, a necessary alternative to traditional holidays in the wake of COVID-19 and restrictions placed on international travel following Brexit. Also, Banksy chose Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, and Lowestoft, three cities competing to become the next UK City of Culture in 2025.
The Instagram video is a brief demonstration of him touring in a motorhome and spray-painting murals in a hoodie behind a colorful screen. Like it was expected, his identity is protected, and this was his way to confirm that the 10 new artworks are genuine Banksy works! Given that he almost never signs his work, this ensures that the still-anonymous creative is properly credited for his output.
