A rare Vincent Van Gogh painting has been held in the private collection of a French family for more than a century. It has been recently shown to the public for the first time since the Dutch artist painted it in the spring of 1887. I Lobo You is going to share with you everything about this famous artist’s rare painting.
The painting, “Street scene in Montmartre” portrays a couple walking on a windy day. Van Gogh painted the work in the spring of 1887, during a two-year sojourn in Paris, when he was living with his brother Theo on the Rue Lepic. Full of color and vitality, the painting symbolizes Van Gogh’s turn to his unique Impressionist style.
The rare painting will be sold at auction for the first time in a sale at Sotheby’s and Mirabaud Mercier, a Paris auction house, this month. It is estimated to sell for more than $6 million! Before that, only a small, black-and-white photograph taken in 1972 existed of this painting that’s reminiscent of some of the artist’s other works.
