The painting, “Street scene in Montmartre” portrays a couple walking on a windy day. Van Gogh painted the work in the spring of 1887, during a two-year sojourn in Paris, when he was living with his brother Theo on the Rue Lepic. The rare painting will be sold at auction for the first time in a sale at Sotheby’s and Mirabaud Mercier, a Paris auction house, this month. It is estimated to sell for more than $6 million! Before that, only a small, black-and-white photograph taken in 1972 existed of this painting that’s reminiscent of some of the artist’s other works.
