The Victoria and Albert Museum display for the first time in Europe the biggest retrospective of the designer’s work, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty showcases McQueen’s visionary body of work.
But despite his success, McQueen never forgot his London roots, often speaking of his love for the British capital, “London’s where I was brought up. It’s where my heart is and where I get my inspiration.”From his 1992 MA graduate collection to his unfinished A/W 2010 collection, McQueen’s designs are presented the dramatic spectacle of his runway shows.
The first show of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2011 was planned by the Costume Institute and it was one of the museum’s top 10 most visited exhibitions. McQueen was found dead on the 11th February 2010, and he was one of the most influential designers of our time.But it is the new Savage Beauty retrospective that will be the largest retrospective of McQueen’s work hosted by the museum, with more than 200 different pieces on display.
