Eric Haacht creates impressive portraits and abstract paintings, enhancing bright and bold colors, as well as swirling brushstrokes. I Lobo You has selected some of the British artist’s contemporary artworks, trying to figure out where distortion seems to be a movement away from form.
My paintings are essentially about life and death, I think all forms of portraiture are really a way of confronting our own mortality, and leaving something of ourselves behind.Eric Haacht
Born in the eighties, Eric Haatch has been painting for ten years, as his first abstract painting was finished in 2011. He is a self-taught painter, as he looks to express a concern with the immediacy and the artificialness of life (and death). The contemporary artist keeps showing his notion that time and form are only an artifice.
The distorted and obscured faces raise questions about our own identity and whether we outwardly project personas which do not reflect our true selves, especially so in an era where social media is so pervasive. But Haacht himself is more concerned with much broader existential questions about whether time and existence themselves are just illusions.Eric Haacht
In the last years, Eric Haatch has sold his abstract paintings around the world and has exhibited his artworks in different places, including in Montreal, and at the Moniker art fair in London, and Cape town.
