Radical exchanges are taking place with minds and materials pooling into multi-faceted collaborations. Galerie Maria Wettergren highlights the works of contemporary designers and artists in the center of this phenomenon. High-tech materials and methods are combined with the Scandinavian tradition for excellent craftsmanship, giving rise to sculptural and poetic objects. Maria Wettergren says: “Among the artists that I represent, I especially think of Mathias Bengtsson and Astrid Krogh. The organic works by Mathias Bengtsson don’t merely imitate natural forms. They are based on the exact principle of natural evolution. For example, to create the “Cellular Chair”, he created a computer program based on how bone cells are formed and evolve. Made in 3D printing, the resin armchair was then coated with silver. As for the Danish Astrid Krogh She navigates between technology, textile design and art. For her tapestries and her wall installations she weaves optic fibre, treating light as a material in its own right with a harmonious blend of colours. Finally, I am also interested in experimental photography with Rodolphe Proverbio and Etienne Bertrand Weill who will have a solo exhibition in November 2014.”
