Jason Briggs is an artist that creates really weird porcelain sculptures. He handworks the porcelain to create strange forms that you can use your imagination to try to figure out their meaning. He uses another materials like mostly hair and steel to give a more realistic syde to each sculpture and create intriguing artworks.
“It’s up to you to label them: sculpture, fine art, fine craft, ceramic sculpture, figurative, abstract, surrealism, eroticism, non-traditional, biological, fucked-up, pornographic or, worst of all, decorative.”
Each object contains very strong visual references and the one that most attracts the artist is tactile one, as we wish to each the objects to figure them out.
He intends for hispieces to invoke a similar sort of temptation. Obvious sexual references, along with an extravagant, fetish-like attention to surface, can arouse a yearning to touch as powerful as the act itself.
“In this way a parallel can be drawn with pornography — my first encounter with Playboy, for example, as an 8-year-old. My emotional response, pure and utter fascination, depended upon a compelling desire to experience flesh. “
Jason Briggs strives to create artworks never seen before but that will stay in your memory cause of their difference and enigmatic character.
