After working with Takashi Murakami, Richard Prince and Stephen Sprouse, Louis Vuitton has announced an artistic collaboration, this time with the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, known as the Princess of the Polka dots.
Marc Jacobs and Yayoi Kusama met in 2006 when the stylist visited Japan. She showed a Louis Vuitton’s bag with classic monogram balls and Jacobs loved the pop art style that his pieces have won.
To announce the partnership, Louis Vuitton has launched a website that makes a trip around the world and the artist’s career still in 2011, and supports a retrospective exhibition, Kusama at Tate Modern Museum. The collection has influenced pop art, purses without monograms (which were replaced by the famous polka dots), vibrant colors and different, and very feminine.
“She introduced me to some ideas and my team complemented with suggestions of materials and shapes for bags, shoes and clothes. She liked them all, without exception”, said Marc Jabobs. The collection includes pajamas provided to plasticized trenchcoat, bags, shoes and jewelry that reflect the artist’s work. And it gives us balls, of all sizes and colors!

This is not the first time that Louis Vuitton brings art to its collections. In 2001, the partnership with Steven Sprouse, and in 2002, with Takashi Murakami. The purpose of these collections is the approach of arts’ world to those who have no contact with this artistic universe.
The collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores from July 10, after the opening of Kusama’s retrospective at the Whitney Museum in NY. In Brazil, it is expected that the first pieces land in August.
