Each of Cyril Lancelin’s art installations is big, bright, and unique, and invites you to come as a part of it, of its design.
I want people to go into what I have created and take pictures, I like to see photographs of the work that surprise me. I have spent a lot of time on Instagram, and I don’t see it as detrimental to art. When a member of the public takes and transmits a photograph of what I have done, it becomes a dialogue. Sometimes they put themselves in the frame. The choices they make are fascinating. And the pictures travel, giving the works a second life.


Taking his artworks outside, the contact with the public is one of the most essential parts of his art. It may be simple at a first look, but in a way, his works are profound and reflect a bit of the beauty inherent in science, and how we fit into the world

A lot of Cyril Lancelin’s works use iconic and unusual elements, that add just the right amount of exuberance and uniqueness. A touch of the child’s birthday party is also present, like a diversion park and the bouncy castle. These elements are usually mixed with the grandeur of ancient monuments (pyramid shapes appear frequently), they have a magnetic kind of energy to them.


The scale of the art sculptures also plays an important role, for the French artist, the bigger, the better.
I like that scale of things. You could see people thinking about how to navigate the space around them, and there was a feeling that you could get lost.

Even the renders of the art installations that hadn’t been realized are artworks themselves. Ciryl Lancelin asked himself a question: If the goal is to disseminate an image, is the physical structure itself that important? this question came when he was working on Pyramid Pillows, an unrealized concept that created a pyramid-shaped nest of pillows around a bed. His work is about frustration, imagination, shielding, and comfort – all things that have shaped last year for many artists.
