“The light bulb series” was created in collaboration between Foscarini and James Wines/SITE, this art furniture series the protagonist of the installation “Reverse Room” presented during the design week of Milan Design Week 2018 Foscarini Spazio Brera, a ” Black Box” inverted and angled. It alters spatial perception and challenges our reactions to the environment and conventions.

Conceived as a set of five design pieces, in numbered limited editions, the series is a collection of the signature of objects that blur the boundaries between art and design.
In a room with dark walls, overturned and angled, with monochrome design furniture, the suspension lamps sprout from the floor, while table lamps look down from the ceiling, challenging our perception of spaces and our response to environmental stimuli and conventions.
“For a design-oriented company, it is always a privilege to cross paths with the conceptual and artistic evolution of creative talents with whom the firm shares intrinsic affinities. This is what has happened in the case of Foscarini and James Wines.” — Carlo Urbinati, founder, and president of Foscarini.
In the interior design world, the classic shape of the bulb was initially commanded by the function and technology available. The technical evolution and the expansion of LED technology now allow adapting any shape to the same function.
This moment is the end of the light bulb, but the form is so established in our culture that it remains omnipresent. Wines address these considerations through the main themes that have guided their architectural research; a body of work that explores expectations and subconscious reactions to everyday objects and experiences and inserts art where it is least expected.
