Mata & Grifo is a folkloristic story from the Stretto di Messina where Antonio Aricò grew up surrounded by myths and legends. Teaming up with Elena Salmistraro and the brand Altreforme, Aricò drew on the poetry from a poem from his childhood and transformed it into a product that entertained Rossana Orlandi’s guests during Milano Design Week. Antonio designed ‘Mata’ the female giant cabinet, while the male ‘Grifo’ was designed by his friend Elena Salmistraro.
The two designers, Antonio Aricò and Elena Salmistraro have been connected by a deep friendship bond that dates back to their university times, and they succeeded in building a perfect dialogue with no smears that resulted in the possibility to shape two modern art objects with strong iconic value. The contemporary design objects are intimately connected to their respective modern design dialectics, but ultimately never abandon the essential continuity which is required by such an experiment.
Made in aluminum, these modern cabinets by Elena Salmistraro could only see the light thanks to eccentric and kaleidoscopic Altreforme (Fontana Group), who have integrated and contributed to the design, thanks to their personal knowledge and long-standing experience.
