Moooi and the acclaimed artist Andrés Reisinger came together to give birth to an emblematic chair, considered by many as “impossible to produce”! The artist first revealed the Hortensia chair back in 2018, and it went viral on Instagram. Made from 30 000 Fabric Petals, this chair is an unforgettable piece, that won’t go unnoticed no matter where it is!
Designed by Andrés Reisinger for the first time in 2018, as a digital piece of furniture, this piece made a huge success and since then, this plump, fabric petalled chair has become a bit of a myth and a legend. Now the Dutch design brand Moooi had joined the digital artist and converted this myth into a unique physical chair, proving that’s possible to produce this famous piece!
The Hortensia Armchair, by Andrés Reisinger & Júlia Esqué, embraces the beauty of nature. This beauty takes inspiration from the basic human need for affection and comfort. This modern chair provides these feelings once you sit at the blooming flower, enveloped in smooth and gentle petals.

Reisinger’s collaboration with Moooi comes after a partnership in 2019 with textile designer Júlia Esqué, who got together with talented local craftsmen in Barcelona to help him produce the 3D design in a limited-edition series. That iteration featured a wooden frame and 20,000 fabric petals: 500 modules of 40 distinct polyester petals bunched together to create the flower chair.
Moooi’s version shares the laser-cut, scalloped polyester petal bunches, but highlights a steel frame covered in injection-molded foam. Upholstered in 30,000 fabric petals, the chair is available in soft pink (original version), as well as a light, moody grey.
In total, each chair is covered in around half a kilometer of petal fabric. A pared-back, pedal-less version of the design will be available in Moooi’s catalog, with 371 different textiles, as an effort to guarantee that the design can suit a variety of different spaces and tastes.
